Sweden will not be intimidated by Vladimir Putin's "provocations" and threats to the West and will continue to support Ukraine, the country's Defense Minister Pal Jonsson said today.
"The recent escalation and provocation by Russia is an attempt to intimidate us into not supporting Ukraine, and it will fail. Russia will not be able to stop us from continuing to support Ukraine," he said at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov.
Supporting Ukraine "is an investment in our own security, because your security is ours," he added.
Defending Ukraine's right to "defend itself inside and outside its territory", Pal Jonsson announced that Sweden is ready to "significantly" finance the purchase of long-range missiles and drones for Ukraine.
"We will support the Ukrainian defense industry by financing the acquisition of these long-range missiles and drones," he said.
The minister did not specify the amount of this investment, referring to the announcement of Sweden's 18th aid package to Ukraine which will be presented in January.
