British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed today


that British Air Force jets shot down "several" Iranian drones during Tehran's attack on Israel last night and called for "calm" to avoid an escalation of the conflict. .

"I can confirm that our pilots did shoot down several Iranian attack drones," Sunak said. "If this attack was successful, the consequences for regional stability would be hard to ignore. We support the security of Israel and the wider region, which is of course important to our security here at home as well. What we need now is for sobriety to prevail," he said in a video message broadcast by Downing Street.

The British Prime Minister is expected to participate later today in the meeting of the leaders of the G7 countries, the Group of Seven most powerful economies on the planet, of which Britain is a member.
