The new Peruvian government announced on Thursday its intention to declare a state of emergency in the capital Lima, amid a wave of violence attributed to organized crime, which has triggered major protests and incidents with one dead and over a hundred injured.
“We will announce the decision to declare a state of emergency, at least in the Lima region,” the head of the transitional government, Ernesto Alvarez, told the press after a cabinet meeting.
