US Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican front-runner Donald Trump remain neck-and-neck less than seven weeks before the presidential election,
according to polls released today, which also predict a close battle in the state of Pennsylvania.
In the national poll (Sept. 11-16), Harris and Trump secured 47 percent of the vote among 2,437 likely voters. The survey was conducted for The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Siena College.
In Pennsylvania, one of seven swing states, Kamala Harris maintains a 4-point lead over Trump (45% to 46%, with a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points), according to the Times poll.
A Washington Post poll also shows a close battle in Pennsylvania, which, along with Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, is expected to decide the outcome of the US presidential election vote. In this poll (September 12-16), Harris is credited with 48% of the vote and Trump with 47%.
A majority of respondents to the Post poll say they are "extremely motivated" to vote to protect American democracy.
But voters are split on which of the candidates would best protect democracy: 48% choose Kamala Harris and 45% choose Trump.
