Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, delivered his first address, a few days after his election.
Promising “revenge for all Iranian blood shed to date,” the new Ayatollah announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed and friendly relations with neighboring states would be maintained.
He called for the closure of all American bases in the region, announcing a new barrage of missile attacks on American targets in the Middle East.
“So far, limited revenge has been achieved for the blood of the martyrs, it is our priority to avenge everyone. The crime that the enemy deliberately committed in the case of the Shajarah Tayyiba Minab girls’ school and in a number of similar cases holds a special place in this effort. I assure everyone that we will not overlook the revenge for the blood of your martyrs.
The revenge we have in mind is not limited to the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution; every member of the nation who is martyred by the enemy is a separate case in our revenge file.”
Elsewhere, he called for the unity of the Iranian people:
“The insight and intelligence of the great Iranian nation, its stability, courage and presence, made friends admire and enemies bewilder. You, the people, were the ones who led the country and guaranteed its authority. The road to liberation from the Zionist regime will be short, with messages for the Houthis and Hezbollah as well.
Without a doubt, the solidarity of the components of the resistance front will shorten the path to liberation from the Zionist uprising. The brave and loyal Yemen did not stop defending the oppressed people of Gaza, and the devoted Hezbollah has rushed to help the Islamic Republic despite all obstacles, and the Iraqi resistance has courageously followed the same line.”
