Israel's 11-member Security Council unanimously approved the deal.
The Israeli government's Security Council approved the Gaza ceasefire and hostage swap deal on Friday, as expected, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said.
The 11-member Security Council unanimously approved the deal.
The deal still needs to be approved by the full 33-member cabinet. The cabinet meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. local time.
Hamas earlier said mediators had resolved the final hurdles to a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages and prisoners between Israel and the Palestinian faction.
The implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire began on Sunday, January 19.
“The obstacles that arose due to the (Israeli) occupation’s failure to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire agreement were resolved early this morning,” said Zaher Jabarin, head of the Hamas Office of Martyrs and Prisoners.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office had said on Thursday that last-minute obstacles were still being analyzed and sought at the negotiating table in the Qatari capital, before confirming later in the day that the agreement had been agreed.
It is noted that the first phase of the agreement is expected to enter into force on Sunday, January 19, after the full approval of the agreement by the Israeli cabinet. In this first phase of the agreement, 33 Hamas hostages are expected to be released.
